Review: Tungareshwar: Temple and Waterfall - Vasai, Thane

Blog No: 09

Tungareshwar is situated near the village of Sativali In Taluka Vasai, in the district of Thane – Maharashtra. It is the Highest Mountain plateaus in Vasai. The Temple of Lord Shiva is on the slope of hill which is known as Tungareshwar Hill & nearby flow of Tungareshwar River & behind temple there is “Ram kund”. In addition to the ancient temple, river there is beautiful streams and waterfalls.

If you want to reach to the temple or waterfall you have to walk 3 km as auto rickshaws will leave you at the entrance. Auto Rickshaw takes 30 Rs per seat. When we started walking I saw there are streams flowing down which was great; loving nature. It almost took more than 1 hour to reach Lord Shiva temple. Temple is well maintained and you will find small temple at the entrance and behind the temple. You will find lot of monkeys which are searching for food and if they find in your hand they will snatch it away :). After doing darshan we preceded our journey to waterfall. As we were moving ahead it was getting difficult to walk because it doesn't has any proper way and the flow of water was also very high. As we were reaching nearby the water was rising higher due to heavy rains. We made chains so that we can reach on the other side as one cannot go alone. If one tries to go alone, the person can put its life in danger. As we reached near the waterfall we were hardly there for 20 minutes as we saw the flow and force of water was double. We didn't even complete our whole journey and we started walking down.

While coming back we were stuck in between as it was not possible to go on the other side. I and my friends had almost put our lives in danger as we couldn't find any other way to come down. Even other people were trying to help us so that we can reach to the other side but it was impossible. About half hour we were just standing there in between and finding way to come out from that danger. This place is full of greenery with big trees, it is almost a forest. We started finding our own way and moved into the forest and finally after some time we were safe and started walking down. It also has another way to come down but it is too far from waterfall. As I was coming down I was shocked to see that the place was not even visible which we had choose to reach the temple. I thanked God that he took care of all 12 of us.

On the way there are small restaurants with food and snacks but the cost is high. This journey was too adventurous with lot of risk and danger. I suggest you all to avoid this place when it rains heavily. Do not take girls over there, even families should avoid it. After coming back I decided, this is the first and the last time I will ever visit this place in monsoon till it doesn't have proper way and services. I loved it as I like adventurous places and we all were happy that we made it.

Thank You.
