Child/God - Ketan Bhagat (Book Review)
Blog No: 19--->
Well I have completed with Ketan Bhagat second novel
Child/God. After a long time I have read something which is really worth and I enjoyed
it. I even read his first novel which was written wonderfully and had lot of
things which can make you think and learn. Chetan Bhagat mostly writes about
college, love life, youth, etc but Ketan Bhagat has the ability to write beyond
that. He writes about family, life after marriage, wisdom words, children,
friends, how you should make your life better and his both the books has all
these topics covered which is very much required to balance your life. He has a
unique way of writing skills.
Coming to the story, author has done a great job.
The story is about Raghav Malhotra who has ruined childhood and not appreciated
by anyone because of his casual behaviour, low grades, his own parents compare
him with his own high professional big brother Rishi Malhotra who is the author
of blockbuster novels and scripts. Raghav is the husband of most beautiful wife
Leela who is a yoga teacher and always accepted Raghav as he was. The first
part of the story is all about how Raghav was compared and never accepted by
any of his family member, not even by his mom due to his failures. He used to
run yoga classes with his wife and was very passionate about this business. He
works in an MNC there also he is trashed each and every time and he also became
frustrated Indian husband who was bored with his wife. His brother was rich,
famous, great marketing, writing skills, youth icon, celebrity. Raghav also
wanted to become writer but his brother became an obstacle and never supported
him and Raghav manuscript was rejected by every publisher as his brother never
wanted him to come in same profession. Because of all this he was killed from
inside and started consuming alcohol, drugs, daily argument with his wife and
slapping her and even going to red alert area to have sex. Yoga classes also
shut down and Leela got pregnant but Raghav was not happy and neither had he
taken care of Leela. He almost had dead feelings and emotions.
The second part is the turning point which changed
Raghav when his wife gave birth to a child called Ish. Raghav named him as
living God as he considered his Guru who brought him back from the depression.
He started observing his child carefully rather than teaching him right and
wrong. He started relating his situations and his life with his child and
taking actions on it. He started spending time with his wife and son and
focusing on only important things in life and left all bad habits. He started
doing yoga and again working on the manuscript rather than worrying about who
will publish and who all will read. He made proper schedule, he looked younger
than before, had wisdom words in his speaking. All this happened because he
observed his child who changed his life from all side. During this whole story
lot of characters are described who made the reading fun and helped him to
create his own identity rather than knowing him as Rishi Malhotra brother.
Good points about this book.
- I liked the cover page of the book and printing is also great with proper font size.
- Lot of memories are described in this book which can take you back to your childhood.
- Lot of information about different places is given with proper details.
- How to deal with problems and difficult situations, focusing on important things in life and how one should live their life without any fear, ego and failure with wonderful examples quotes.
- Lots of incidence are described which are real and the story is properly written which won’t let feel the story is running fast.
Limitations of this book.
- Last book written by the author was of 373 pages and this is of 351 pages with increase in its length too. This book is bigger than the last book so it is very difficult to read but the suspense made me read the whole book.
- Some part of the book is boring and you would like to skip it.
- Repetition of sentences and paragraphs are there at some places.
This book is way
different from the other books and very much interesting. Author has unique way
of writing skills and he writes about the present condition of each and every
person is facing today with solutions. Yoga has the power to change you and it
is very well described. You can learn lot of things which can change you and
your thinking when you read it. Ketan Bhagat can write better than his brother.
This is a lengthy
book but it was fun to read and I would give 4*/5 for Novel Child/God of Mr.
Ketan Bhagat.
Thank You.
